Grapp Res v Denton Res 10/09/11

Sports hosted Denton on a pretty dry pitch and with an average age of what seemed to be about 16. It would have been lower had ageing ex-skipper Dave Coyne not turned up with his boots to add a bit of experience off the bench. Sports started quite well and Toad Newbolt up top held the ball up well for the runs of Glynn Sutton, Andy Flanagan & Sam Caddick however a few chance were spurned which they paid for later. Glynn should have put Sports 2 up but his poked effort glanced past the post but then Toad won and converted a pen on the half hour to put Sports ahead. Denton got one back before the break to make it honours even.

Davies popped on asian wonder kid Ranny Dhaliwal at half time to replace the crocked Andy Flanagan and switched to a 4-4-2. Sports passing game went missing and Denton came more and more into the game benefitting from their much more experienced ranks.

Denton deservedly scored 2 goals and although Ryan Matthews and Matt Ball tried to get some joy out wide Sports couldn't break Denton down. Solid performance from Ben Paterson at the back but it wasn't enough.
