Golborne (A) 03/09/11
Sports travelled to Lowton on the back of a terrible defeat and Manager Mark Pye was looking for a response from his disciples.
In Royal blue, Sports started well and looked far the better team however both teams seemed to get some joy when they got the ball out wide. Sports made an early sub as right back Fin Todd got a wack and Sports threw on Madcap winger Pete Jones in an unfamiliar defensive role which he took to like a duck to water (Well Kinda). Sam Shaw went through on goal on 22 mins and kept his calm by committing the keeper and calmly squaring to Duracel Bunny Ryan Crawford who scrambled the ball home 0-1 Grasshoppers!
Just a few minutes later a hooked clearance put Frenchman France under pressure however his well paced header found it's way through the legs of the Sports #1 and left the Golborne striker with a walk-in, 1-1.
The game became at best 'bitty' with neither side taking the game by the balls, Lee Mannion could have been cautioned for his waist high challenge had he not been only a 7 stone wet through nimph of a player! Just before the break a poorly placed deflection from a Golborne midfielder set Danny Sisson through in on goal and he kept his composure to poke in Sports' second.
The second period saw some contentious decisions and a battle of attrition, Sports should have scored when Crawford's run saw him round the keeper but his finish was blocked on the line. Mannion also burst through on goal but the home side's #1 and MOM did well to clear his lines. Unfortunately on 94 minutes a poorly defended cross saw Golborne equalise and ruin Sports' day. An unlucky event but decent performance from Sports.
